Deadly Bus Crash in Southern Iraq Claims Twenty-One Lives

(MENAFN) A tragic road accident in southern Iraq left 21 people dead and 19 others injured on Sunday after a passenger bus overturned on the highway connecting the cities of Nasiriyah and Basra, according to reports.

Authorities said the bus was carrying a number of visitors when the crash occurred. Following the incident, emergency response efforts were rapidly mobilized to assist victims and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities.

According to reports, Iraq’s health authorities immediately launched emergency measures, placing medical personnel, ambulance crews, and healthcare teams on high alert. Hospitals and emergency services were instructed to dedicate all available resources to treating those affected by the accident.

Preliminary casualty figures indicated that 21 people were killed and 19 sustained injuries. Reports also noted that the victims included Iranian visitors, though no specific number was provided.

The injured were transferred to hospitals for treatment, while medical teams continued to monitor their conditions and provide necessary care.

In a separate statement, the office of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi said he was closely following developments related to the crash in coordination with local officials in Dhi Qar province and relevant government agencies.

The prime minister also ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident as authorities work to determine its cause.
